Packers cut WR Abbrederis; set 53

If Jared Abbrederis is ever going to make the Green Bay Packers’ roster, he’ll have to start on the practice squad.
The Packers released the Wautoma native and former Wisconsin walk-on during their final cut to 53 player on Saturday afternoon. The decision came two days after Abbrederis played in his first preseason game since the Packers drafted him in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL draft.
The 6-foot-1, 195-pound receiver took 62 of a possible 68 offensive snaps against New Orleans, catching one pass for six yards and returning three punts for 35 yards. He fumbled on another return, but it was waved off due to a special-teams penalty on the Saints.
The start of Abbrederis’ NFL career has been injury riddled. He tore his anterior cruciate ligament a week into camp last summer and spent the remainder of the year on injured reserve. He returned in time for the offseason program, but then suffered a concussion on the first day of training camp that sidelined him for the next month.
All told, he’s participated in only seven of a possible 29 public practices and one of eight preseason games over the past two seasons. There just wasn't a spot for him on the active roster with Jeff Janis putting together another strong summer and former undrafted free agent Myles White (16 catches for 157 yards and two touchdowns) leading the Packers in receiving this preseason.
The Packers had two undrafted rookies – cornerback LaDarius Gunter and Alonzo Harris – and three former practice-squad players – safety Chris Banjo, offensive lineman Josh Walker and receiver Myles White – make the initial 53-man roster.
The Packers also cut: RB John Crockett, RB Rajion Neal, WR Larry Pinkard (injured), WR Ed Williams, TE Mitchell Henry, TE Justin Perillo, C Garth Gerhart, T Jeremy Vujnovich, G Matt Rotheram, C Andy Phillips, DL Khyri Thornton, DL Christian Ringo, ILB Carl Bradford, ILB Joe Thomas, LB James Vaughters, OLB Jermauria Rasco (injured), CB Tay Glover-Wright, DB Ryan White, S Jean Fanor.
Defensive linemen Datone Jones and Letroy Guion were placed on the reserve/suspended list.
