Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy met with reporters for about five minutes Friday morning in advance of his team's Sunday night showdown against the Seattle Seahawks at Lambeau Field. Here are some highlights of his conversation.
On Bryan Bulaga’s knee injury: Bryan Bulaga suffered a knee injury. He will be out this week. He is still going through the evaluation process.
On how concerned he is with Bulaga beyond Sunday: He’s still going through the evaluation process. He will not play in Sunday night’s game.
On Don Barclay being experienced at right and left tackle: Well, anytime you have an opportunity to train left side, right side at guard and tackle, it’s definitely a benefit. There’s also the challenge from the aspect of footwork. It’s part of the versatility you look for in all your players, and Don Barclay has that.
On whether this is a bad time of the week for Bulaga’s injury: Well, there’s never a good time of the week, but it was just a Thursday practice during individual drills. That’s football. It’s unfortunate.
On whether Barclay is best suited for right tackle: I think Donnie Barclay is a football player. He’s lined up and played well for us. J.C. Tretter is a heck of a football player. I like all of our guys.
On Barclay recovering from ACL: I think everybody goes through camp and makes progress, whether you’re early in your career or coming off injury. I think his recovery was normal for an ACL injury.
On whether Barclay will start at RT: That is not clear. I’m not declaring any starters right now.
On whether Morgan Burnett can play Sunday: It looks good. As long as he comes out of Saturday’s practice clean, I think he’ll be good to go.
On Richard Sherman being in the slot: I don’t think it’s a schematic change. It’s a position change. He played in the slot last year, so I think we’ll be prepared for it.
On Datone Jones returning to practice: So far, so good. He came out of practice clean yesterday. I think he and Morgan are similar.
On whether Datone Jones can help right away: I thought he looked good in his reps yesterday. There’s some things that you change from week to week.
