Eddie Lacy, Ty Montgomery inactive vs. Lions

Eddie Lacy is one of seven players inactive for the Green Bay Packers' game against the Detroit Lions on Sunday afternoon.

Lacy, listed as questionable on the team's injury report, will miss today's game because of a strained groin. It's unclear how much the big running back would play even if healthy. Earlier this week, Lacy was demoted to a backup role, falling behind starter James Starks on the depth chart.

Lacy injured his groin late in the Packers' game at the Carolina Panthers and did not return. It's the first game Lacy has missed this season, but it's not the first time he's been injured. Lacy played and struggled through a sprained ankle in September. His appearance on the inactive list could be an indication the Packers coaching and medical staff believe it's better for Lacy to rest instead of continue playing through his ailments.

Even when healthy, Lacy has yet to get on track this season. He's rushed 308 yards and two touchdowns through the first eight games. He's fumbled in each of the past three games, losing one last week against the Panthers.

The Packers will also be without rookie receiver Ty Montgomery, who sprained his ankle in the Packers' more recent home game Oct. 18 against the San Diego Chargers. Montgomery has not played since then, and though he has practiced in a limited fashion, he was listed as doubtful today.

The Packers have not had every offensive player on their 53-man roster available on game day since their opener at the Chicago Bears two months ago.

On defense, the Packers will have their full cast in the secondary. Cornerback Sam Shields (shoulder) missed last weeks' game at Carolina after being injured the previous week at Denver. The Packers will also have cornerback Casey Hayward (concussion) rookie Quinten Rollins (neck). The Packers have had their full secondary available only once this season.
