Jeff Janis could get snaps with thin WR group

If Green Bay Packers receiver Jeff Janis can't get some offensive snaps Sunday at the Minnesota Vikings, it's fair to wonder if he ever will.

Janis is one of four receivers activated on the Packers' game day 46-man roster. The Packers will be without rookie Ty Montgomery (ankle) and Jared Abbrederis (ribs). Montgomery hasn't played since Oct. 18 when he left the Packers' game against the San Diego Chargers with an ankle injury. Abbrederis had a breakout game last week, catching four passes for 57 yards against the Detroit Lions, but today may be the first of several games he'll miss.

The Packers have seemed content to lean heavily on Randall Cobb, Davante Adams and James Jones in their receiver rotation. Janis will be the fourth receiver today. Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Janis is an "ascending player" and has been happy with his development. When injuries forced Janis onto the field against the Chargers, he caught two passes for 79 yards. He has four offensive snaps in the three games since. Thin on numbers, the Packers passing game could use his speed in their NFC North showdown against the Vikings.

The Packers' secondary dodged a significant hit. Rookie cornerback Damarious Randall (hamstring) was activated after appearing on Saturday's injury report as questionable. There's no way of knowing how well Randall will be able to move around with his injured hamstring, but his presence on the field will be important.

For the Vikings, left tackle Matt Kalil was activated after being listed as questionable with a toe injury. So will safety Robert Blanton, who was listed as questionable with a back injury.

Here are the Packers' inactives against the Vikings:

QB Brett Hundley

CB LaDarius Gunter

RB Alonzo Harris

OLB Andy Mulumba

G Lane Taylor

WR Ty Montgomery

WR Jared Abbrederis
