Crockett inactive; Lacy's role expected to expand
With the rain falling at Lambeau Field, the Green Bay Packers figure to use a heavy dose of running back Eddie Lacy when they host the Dallas Cowboys late Sunday afternoon.
John Crockett, the undrafted rookie who gave the Packers a spark against the Detroit Lions, is among the team's seven inactives against the Cowboys. The Packers will have only two tailbacks on their 46-man, game-day roster: Lacy and James Starks.
Lacy was punished for missing curfew in Detroit, seeing his carries limited to five. He entered Detroit with consecutive 100-yard games for the first time in his career, but his 19 snaps were two fewer than fullback John Kuhn. It was the second time the third-year tailback and former Pro Bowler has been demoted this season. If that demotion hasn't been reversed, Lacy at least stands to have a bigger role against the Cowboys.
The Packers will also be without center Corey Linsley, rookie receiver Ty Montgomery, outside linebackers Nick Perry and Andy Mulumba, cornerback LaDarius Gunter and quarterback Brett Hundley.
Green Bay is fortunate to have only one starting offensive lineman out. Right tackle Bryan Bulaga (ankle) was questionable, and right guard T.J. Lang (shoulder) and left guard Josh Sitton (back) were limited during portions of practice last week.
With left tackle David Bakhtiari also struggling through a knee injury, the Packers offensive line consisted of four backups during one point in the second half against the Lions. Instead, center JC Tretter will be the only backup on the Packers' starting offensive line against the Cowboys. Tretter has played well filling in for Linsley as he's battled through an ankle injury in the past few weeks.
It will also be the sixth straight game Montgomery misses because of his ankle sprain. Montgomery, a third-round pick in May, had been building momentum when he exited the Packers game Oct. 18 against the San Diego Chargers with injury. He hasn't returned to the fields since.
