Ty Montgomery just can’t seem to catch a break.

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Ty Montgomery (88) is tackled by San Diego Chargers strong safety Jahleel Addae (37) after making a catch at Lambeau Field October 18, 2015. Montgomery was injured on the play.

The Green Bay Packers rookie receiver once again missed practice Thursday. While the team’s injury report hasn’t been released, it appears Montgomery suffered another setback with an ankle injury that has kept him out two months.

Montgomery hasn’t played since spraining his ankle Oct. 18 against the San Diego Chargers. He reaggravated the ankle in practice Nov. 19. It’s premature to know whether the Packers might consider placing Montgomery on season-ending injury reserve, but with three games left it could be an option if the rookie once again reaggravated his sprained ankle.

The Packers also practiced without cornerback Sam Shields (concussion) and left guard Josh Sitton (back). Coach Mike McCarthy said Shields is still in concussion protocol, while Sitton is getting some needed rest.

“Just being smart with his reps,” McCarthy said of Sitton on Thursday morning. “I mean, we’re deep into the season. He has a lot of football that he has played.”

Montgomery was playing a lot of football earlier this season. He was on the field for 249 snaps through the season’s first six games, according to Pro Football Focus. The rookie was also becoming a bigger part of the offense. One week before his injury, Montgomery had his best game of the season against the St. Louis Rams, catching four passes for 59 yards and a touchdown.

Now, his future for the rest of this season is uncertain after another missed practice.
