Packers sign safety Marwin Evans
The Green Bay Packers signed hybrid safety Marwin Evans to a free-agent contract, they announced Tuesday.
Evans, a Milwaukee native, was undrafted out of Utah State. He played two seasons with the Aggies after one season at Highland (Kan.) Community College and one season at Rochester (Minn.) Community College.
At 5-foot-11 and 211 pounds, Evans fits the mold of a hybrid safety who can play sub-package snaps as a linebacker on third downs. He is a physical in-box defender who can hold up in coverage and defend the run.
Evans started 13 of 27 games for Utah State, recording 83 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, two sacks, an interception returned 90 yards for touchdown, three forced fumbles and five pass breakups. He played on the same unit as outside linebacker Kyler Fackrell, the Packers' third-round draft pick.
